A Statistical Report on Completion of 8 Years of GST

GSTN's eighth-anniversary report covers the system up to June 2025. It includes registration and return filing trends, the number of GSTR-1 invoices reported by taxpayers in each turnover slab, cash tax payment by turnover slab, and a comparison of taxpayers who migrated from the pre-GST regime with those who registered later. It also reports helpdesk and grievance statistics against documents filed, such as GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and new registration applications. The series gives a consistent year-on-year view of how the GST system is used.

Key findings and recommendations

  • Migrated taxpayers still pay much more tax per head than newer registrants, though new registrants far outnumber them.
  • Helpdesk tickets were a very small share of the returns filed through the portal.
  • The turnover-slab tables show that most taxpayers are small, while cash tax payment is concentrated among a few large ones.
