A Statistical Report on the Completion of Nine Years of GST

GSTN's ninth-anniversary statistical report covers the GST system up to June 2026. It covers registration (new registrations, the active taxpayer base, cancellations and revocations), return filing trends for GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, payments by composition taxpayers, e-invoicing through the various Invoice Registration Portals, and taxpayer services such as the GITA chatbot. State-wise tables rank States and UTs by number of active taxpayers. Registration counts are net of cancellations and of revocations with retrospective effect.

Key findings and recommendations

  • Total active registrations stood at 1,67,14,646 as on 30 June 2026. Of these, 1,48,70,332 were normal taxpayers and 13,55,180 were composition taxpayers.
  • About 39 lakh of the active registrations migrated from the pre-GST regime, so most of the base has registered since GST began.
  • Uttar Pradesh is shown as the state with the most active taxpayers.
  • The report breaks down e-invoice volumes by each authorised IRP, including NIC and private IRPs.
