An HUF holds its own PAN, so a change in karta does not need a new GSTIN. It is a core field amendment, and the officer needs proof of who the new karta is and why the change happened.
If the previous karta was the authorised signatory, first add the new karta as authorised signatory through the non-core amendment. Then file the core amendment in the Promoter/Partners tab: add the new karta, mark the previous karta for deletion with the date, upload the documents and submit. Complete any Aadhaar authentication sent to the new karta.
If the previous karta died and only they had the login and mobile number, you may not be able to log in. In that case, the primary authorised signatory's email and mobile need to be changed through the jurisdictional officer first. Partition of the HUF is a different situation and can affect registration more widely.
If returns were missed during the transition and the GSTIN got suspended, regain access, file pending returns and then complete the karta amendment. A professional can help with the officer correspondence.
