If you paid GST when you received an advance for services, and later issued the invoice, GSTR-1 must show the advance adjustment in its advance tables. If you report the full invoice but skip the adjustment, GSTR-1 shows tax twice and appears higher than GSTR-3B.
For services, tax becomes payable on receipt of an advance under the time of supply rules, so you report the advance in GSTR-1 and pay tax in GSTR-3B for that month. When the invoice is issued later, the full invoice goes into the B2B or B2C table, and the advance already taxed should be shown in the advance adjustment table so that tax is not counted again.
When the adjustment is missed, GSTR-1 for the invoice month shows the full tax, while GSTR-3B for that month correctly shows only the balance. The gap equals the tax on the advance.

A professional can reconcile advances and adjustments for the year and draft the explanation so the officer can see tax was paid once.
