GST approval guide · updated October 2026

Why one pending GST amendment blocks the next

The GST portal does not accept a new core field amendment while an earlier one is still pending with the officer. The earlier ARN has to be disposed of, by approval, rejection or deemed approval, before the next one can be filed.

Why it happens

Each amendment application edits a snapshot of your registration. If two were pending at once, approving one could overwrite the other. So the portal locks core amendments until the officer's decision on the pending one. Depending on the stage, the portal may also not allow a non-core amendment while a core amendment is pending.

Plan several changes together

  • If you are moving the principal place and adding a godown at the same time, include both in one core amendment.
  • If you also need to change bank details or signatories, do the non-core changes first, then file the core amendment.
  • Upload documents for every change in the one application so the officer can approve it in one go.
  • The October 2026 FAQs on the GST Council's recommendations say additional place additions will be auto-processed and can be filed one after another; check whether the portal has implemented this.

If the earlier ARN is stuck

If a REG-03 query is pending, reply to it; the officer then has 7 working days to decide. If no query was raised and 15 working days have passed, the amendment should be deemed approved. If the portal still shows it pending and blocks you, raise a ticket on the self-service grievance portal with the ARN and screenshots, and email the jurisdictional office asking for disposal.

If the pending amendment is wrong or no longer needed, there is usually no withdrawal option; you wait for the decision. In a reply to a query you can explain that the change is no longer required.

Other things that can block an amendment

A pending cancellation application, or a registration under suspension or cancelled, can also restrict amendments. Sort out the suspension or cancellation proceedings first. A professional can review what is pending on your GSTIN and suggest the order of filings.
